"Dame Barbara Hakin was a British doctor and healthcare executive who served as the National Director of Commissioning Operations at NHS England from 2010 to 2015. She was a former hospital doctor and a GP for 20 years before taking up her first role helping manage the NHS, first as a Primary Care Trust Chief Executive in Bradford and then as a Strategic Health Authority Chief Executive in the East Midlands.
Dr Hakin was a strong advocate for patient safety and quality improvement. She was also a champion for innovation and new technologies in the NHS. She retired from the NHS in 2015 and is now a health advisory consultant.
