Citadel Health wins contract for laboratory system in Lancashire and South Cumbria

Citadel Health has been awarded a contract to implement a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) across all NHS pathology services in Lancashire and South Cumbria.

With the contract now awarded, Citadel Health are set to work with Lancashire and South Cumbria Pathology Service to develop an implementation plan and start a phased deployment, with the aim to eventually support over 42 million tests each year across the region.

“The pathology network was awarded just under £10 million following a successful bid to NHS digital to support the procurement of the system,” said Professor Anthony Rowbottom, Clinical Director of the Lancashire & South Cumbria Pathology Service.  “This really takes us to the next level of technological advancement and will support our future aspirations for utilising machine learning and artificial intelligence.  It will also support the transition that we are planning to near-patient testing and future wearable technology.

“As Clinical Director, I champion the improvements that the new LIMS will drive, particularly the harmonisation of processes that will improve clinical decision making, patient outcomes and safety.”

As part of HTN’s interview series, we spoke with Professor Anthony Rowbottom in March to hear how technologies are shaping services and collaboration in the area. Read the interview here.
